Materials: Rpet: Since 1984, Reef has used RPET webbing made from recycled plastic bottles, certified by the Global Recycling Standard. As of Spring 2020, all toe posts, liners, and sandal straps are 100% recycled polyester.. Recycled content: Reef incorporates recycled content in EVA and rubber compounds since inception. In 2021, Reef introduced a bio-based EVA midsole made from renewable sugarcane, achieving 51% bio content and carbon neutrality.. Natural materials: Majority of liners are 100% cotton; cork is used in select sandals and liners; some women's styles use a mix of PU and natural paper; natural jute braided straps are also used.. Sustainable leather: All leathers and suedes come from tanneries rated Gold or Silver by the Leather Working Group, ensuring environmental best practices. Most leathers are ISA Lite, reducing water and energy consumption significantly. Impact: Reef's sustainable leather use in 2019 conserved over 1 million gallons of water and 40 million hours of lighting, equivalent to filling 1.5 Olympic swimming pools with water. The brand remains 100% PVC free since 2007.
